Tenerife Unforgettable Experiences
Food and Wine
Cuisine is another great hallmark of Tenerife's culture. Traditional marketplaces in towns and villages across the island offer wonderful, fresh produce, often grown on organic farms. The cuisine is a marvelous fusion between the historic and the avant-garde. Dishes are mainly Spanish with South American and Caribbean influences. Potatoes, mojo sauces, gofio (a toasted corn meal-cheese), fish, and honey are all local delights.
Visitors may enjoy everything from four Michelin Star restaurants, to tapas restaurants with a South American feel, and everything in between. The many opportunities for al fresco dining are a particular delight.
Tenerife's wine is internationally recognized for its unique grape varieties of Listan negro, its flavors, and its aromas. Not to be missed is a visit to one of Tenerife's world-famous vineyards to learn the vintner's art while enjoying a meal in an exceptional setting. Visitors may even have the added bonus of a mojo sauce cooking class. There are numerous vineyards on the island that offer guided tours including Bodegas Monje, Bodegas Vinatigo, and Bodega Frontos.
