Carnival

The city of Santa Cruz hosts the largest and liveliest carnival on the island and has become one of Europe's largest and most exotic carnival street parties. This magnificent event takes place throughout the island, the week prior to Lent. During this time, brightly colored costumes and lively carnival-goers flood the streets of the city with an extraordinary festive atmosphere. Before the street carnival begins, the Santa Cruz Carnival includes major events, such as the election of the Carnival Queen, who is crowned during an amazing gala in which hundreds of amateur performers take part. During this spectacular show, the candidates for queen parade on the stage dressed in fantastic costumes that stand out for the creativity and ingenuity of their designers.
