Now, more than ever, large corporations and small boutiques are tapping into the niches of travelers from around the world, providing accommodations with a multitude of different amenities and perks. On the Canary Island of Tenerife, given the different types of travelers drawn to the island for their array of activities and near-perfect climate, it couldn’t be more fitting to have a variety of hotel options.
Though Tenerife is wildly popular for European families vacationing and couples looking for a relaxing getaway, it is becoming increasingly popular amongst American travelers. There are a lot of must-haves that Americans look for in accommodations, and it’s becoming obvious that Tenerife is able to offer what travelers are in search of.
Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife—Millennials & Families
Located on the Adeje coast in the southern part of the island, the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife boasts a modern wave of energy while living up to the legendary name that Hard Rock carries around the world. Like every other Hard Rock Hotel, guests are treated like royalty from check-in until check-out and given the chance to live like rock stars in many different ways throughout their stay.
The property, owned and operated by Palladium Hotel Group, sees many of their bookings come from families with children, younger couples and millennials. It’s truly a no-brainer when considering the amenities offered on the property.
Parents can rejuvenate in the relaxing Rock Spa® while the kids are rocking-out in one of the three kids clubs designed specifically for their age group. For the millennial crowd, starting the day in the Body Rock® gym and closing it out on The 16th rooftop bar is a solid plan as well. Of course, experiencing Tenerife at any time, day or night, is made easy by the location of the hotel, surrounded by the south’s hotspots and excitement.

It is not the all-inclusive or casino property as Americans may be used to in the States or Caribbean, but it still maintains the level of high-quality service the brand is well-known for.
Every staff member is upbeat and willing to go above and beyond, but through their Rock Royalty service, guests can take their stay to another level. Joining the elite rockers will offer suites with panoramic ocean views and exclusive access to amenities such as VIP check-in, a private butler, the Rock Royalty Lounge, free entrance to the Rock Spa® and much more.
The 624-room property features four pools, six restaurants, five bars, and a saltwater lagoon right on the shore. There is daily live music at night in the hotel lobby and big-name DJs and musicians are booked frequently for events. Energetic travelers looking for an exhilarating time in and around their hotel cannot go wrong with the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife.
PRO-TIP: Take advantage of the Rock Spa. Tenerife is an island full of adventure that will wear you out. Nothing beats coming back to enjoy a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, outdoor heated pool with hydro massage beds and more.
Grand Hotel Bahía del Duque—Luxury Family
Also found on the southern part of Tenerife in Costa Adeje is one of the most luxurious properties on the entire island. Since the south was only developed over the last 50 years, traditional Canarian architecture is not common. That is, until you come to the Bahía del Duque, which resembles a 20th-century colonial city throughout the entire 1-million-square-foot property.
Included in the count of 386 rooms are 57 stunning suites as well as 40 private villas. Las Villas, the most exclusive accommodations at the Bahía del Duque, feature unique exclusivity with your own private pool and solarium terrace, complimentary champagne, tea, water, soft drinks and 24-hour butler service.
The rooms are spacious and elegant and the bathrooms are beautifully designed in marble and volcanic stone with tons of natural light—making it the perfect accommodation for romance travelers.
This property can back-up being named one of the best family resorts in Europe with loads of reasoning. With tennis courts, a pitch-and-putt course and multiple water sport offerings such as diving and windsurfing, there’s fun for the whole family.
Kids can be entertained with the sports, any of five pools (including one just for children), and their own club just for teens. Adults will love indulging in multiple cafes and bars as well as a selection of restaurants featuring local and international cuisines, such as fresh seafood from the Beach Club restaurant.
PRO-TIP: Take advantage of Duque Beach. The Bahía del Duque maintains the beach and keeps it in tip-top shape, which is very rare of hotels to do in Tenerife. It is a public beach, but guests have direct access through the back of the hotel.
Hotel Botanico and Oriental Spa Garden—Luxury Wellness
For travelers looking for an ultimate wellness retreat, it doesn’t get any better than the Hotel Botanico and Oriental Spa Garden. Owned by the Kiessling Family, who also owns Siam Park and Loro Parque in Tenerife, this luxurious property is all about relaxation and rejuvenation in the town of Puerto de la Cruz in the north.
With 252 rooms, including 49 suites, Hotel Botanico has welcomed celebrities such as Michael Jackson and Bill Clinton, who have the top suites available named after them.
Letting your body unwind is simple with the amenities in the hotel, but also with the 270,000-square feet of subtropical gardens right outside the doors. Here, you will find beautiful trees, flowers, plants and a pond with koi that make it the perfect spot to enjoy the tropical weather while destressing.
The hands-down best part of staying here is experiencing the Oriental Spa Garden, which is considered to be the top luxury spa in Europe by numerous organizations.
Inspired completely by Asian hospitality and the owner’s relationship with the Thai royal family, the spa lies within its own private garden and has both indoor and outdoor amenities. Here, you will find everything from a Japanese sauna and aromatherapy room to indoor and outdoor thermal pools and relaxing water beds.
What is most notable about the Oriental Garden Spa is the various spa treatments, where guests can choose from a range of oriental and wellness massages and treatments.
For a traditional experience, try the Canarian Ritual—your skin will be tonified and regenerated through alum stone peeling, a Canarian aloe vera body wrap and a volcanic stone massage. Reservations can be made in one of 20 rooms or in an authentic Thai pagoda, and couples are able to book a romantic event in the private Dragon Spa together.
Dining options at Hotel Botanico include three restaurants that serve dinner only, one exclusively for lunch, and a breakfast buffet full of locally-sourced fruit, vegetables and delicious pastries. There is also a Bar Hall, where guests can enjoy refreshments, snacks and sandwiches throughout the day and close their evenings with live music.
For travel agents, Hotel Botanico offers a simple-to-use booking platform where commissions are paid directly and exclusive promotions are available.
PRO-TIP: For a romantic evening, dine at the hotel's Italian/Mediterranean restaurant, Il Pappagallo. A selection of the best Italian wines on the rooftop open-air terrace overlooking the sunset and ocean will not be beaten.
La Laguna Gran Hotel—Cultural & Historical Buffs
Travelers who thrive on history and local culture won’t want to skip over the old town of La Laguna on a trip to Tenerife. The entire city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its architecture served as inspiration for most of what you see in Havana, Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean.
La Laguna is a bustling city with many college students and lots of art and cultural events. It’s not the most touristy part of the island, making hotel choices a bit more limited. For a state-of-the-art stay in the middle of it all, look no further than the La Laguna Gran Hotel.
The hotel lies within the walls of an old tobacco factory that dates back to 1776, but nothing about it is outdated—this property opened its doors in 2017. Everything throughout the property, from the Michelin-star restaurant to the rooftop pool and views, has a very modern feel.
Deluxe and Executive rooms line the courtyards of the hotel, some of which feature a beyond comfortable swinging seat just outside the back door. The Nobel rooms are located within the 18thCentury part of the property, inside the old house and cigar factory, which display some old charm. Suites are available as well, which feature spacious living areas as well as a bedroom.
As it is a small boutique, dining options are limited. The NUB Restaurant is just one of five Michelin-star restaurants in Tenerife and offers many delightful dishes. The other dinner option is the La Laguna Gran Hotel Restaurant, which is just off one of the courtyards and serves-up a different four-course dinner package every night. This is also where guests grab a breakfast buffet in the morning.
PRO-TIP: Tucked away just off the main lobby is the La Laguna Café, where you’ll find a lot of good coffee brewing. You’re sure to be drawn in by the smell, and once inside, you’ll feel like you took a step back in time and are enjoying espresso and gourmet pastries with historical figures.
