Tenerife Becomes the Capital of Gastronomy and Restoration this Week

Tenerife, Spain

Gastrocanarias has opened its doors this morning in the fairground, now a benchmark for the Tenerife sector

The Tenerife Trade Fair hosts the sixth edition of the Gastronomic Exhibition of Canarias-GastroCanarias 2019 until next Thursday [day 23], a specialized event that has become a reference point for the sector of gastronomy and the restoration of the Island.

The beginning of the Absolute Championship of Cooks of the Canary Islands has marked this morning the opening of the hall, an activity that has counted on the presence of the president of the Cabildo, Carlos Alonso; the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero; the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez; and the president of the Cabildo de El Hierro, Belén Allende, a guest island this year, as well as several island councilors.

The record presence of 215 stands spread over 12,000 square meters, making this event a great showcase for the promotion of agri-food products from the Canary Islands, both national and international, as well as serving as a space for the exchange of information and knowledge between professionals and food amateurs.

The presence of El Hierro as a 'guest island', the assistance of the seven islands with their own spaces and the possibility that the winner of the 2nd Pizza Canaries Absolute Championship will participate in the world championship to be held in Parma are some of the novelties of this sixth edition of the Hall, which will host a total of 10 championships this year: six for cooking and four for drinks.

They will be the 15th Absolute Championship of Cooks of the Canary Islands; the 8th Canary Islands Absolute Championship of Ham Cutting; 8th Canary Islands Young Chefs Championship; 6th Author's Snacks Canary Championship; 4th Absolute Championship of Canary Confectioners and 2nd Canary Islands Absolute Pizza Championship.
