United Airlines Announces Extended Flight Service Between Newark and Tenerife, Spain

United Airlines is extending flights between New York City and Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands into the winter season.

The connection between Newark Liberty International Airport and Tenerife South Airport will resume on June 1, 2024, and operate three times weekly through at least March 2025. 

The flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Newark and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays during the winter season. Flights from Tenerife will depart on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the winter season.

The seven-hour trip will be operated with a B757-200 aircraft, featuring a total of 176 seats, including 16 flat-bed seats in United Polaris business class and 42 Economy Plus seats with added legroom and increased personal space.

"As the only airline connecting North America with the Canary Islands, we are delighted to return to Tenerife with a significantly extended service that now includes the winter season, offering our customers on both sides of the Atlantic even greater travel choice," Antonio de Toro, United's head of sales in Spain said in a statement.

"Customers can take advantage of a direct connection to and from the U.S., as well as an unrivaled route network from United’s New York/Newark hub, offering convenient nonstop connections to destinations across the Americas."

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, hosted more than 36,500 Americans last year, up from 26,500 in 2022.
