Tenerife Wakes up to Snow on Teide Christmas Eve

On Christmas Day, the 25th of December, Teide reflected on the previous day’s wintry gift, having awoken on Sunday, 24th December, to a delicate veil of snow. This natural phenomenon provided a stunning visual treat on a day marked by its significance, as documented in the images shared by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in Izaña.

Reflecting on the Christmas Eve weather, Aemet’s forecasts had predicted generally clear skies across the Canary Islands, with the exception of the westernmost islands where cloudy periods prevailed. La Palma and El Hierro experienced rainfall, confirming the forecast’s prediction of likely showers, some heavy during the early hours, and maintaining a presence throughout the day.

The agency had also noted the slim possibility of storms, primarily isolated to La Palma. The rest of the western islands were braced for potential rain, although expected to be light and sporadic. As it turned out, the weather mostly adhered to these predictions, creating a diverse Christmas Eve weather scene across the islands.

Temperature-wise, Christmas Eve saw slightly higher maximums in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the west of Gran Canaria, while elsewhere the temperatures stayed constant. The minimum temperatures generally held steady, with a slight dip noted in the interior regions of Tenerife, adding a crisp chill to the holiday atmosphere.

As residents and visitors alike celebrated Christmas, the weather of the previous evening provided much to reflect on, from serene clear skies to the dramatic touch of winter’s snow on Teide, marking a memorable Christmas Eve in the Canary Islands.
